When a click arrives at an Offer that is not available, Aftrad needs to decide what to do with that traffic. The Offer fallback configuration controls where that traffic is redirected.
When does the fallback trigger?
The fallback is triggered when an Affiliate sends traffic to an Offer that is not available. This happens in two situations:
The Offer's Traffic status is not Active — this is calculated automatically by Aftrad based on factors such as the Offer's status, the Advertiser's status, CAP limits, and date range. When any of these conditions prevent the Offer from accepting traffic, the Traffic status becomes inactive.
The click does not match the Offer's targeting rules — even if the Traffic status is Active, a click may still be rejected if it doesn't meet the Offer's targeting criteria (e.g., the Offer only accepts traffic from Poland but the click comes from Spain).
Fallback decision flow
When the Offer is not available, Aftrad evaluates the Affiliate's fallback configuration:
1. Check the Affiliate's fallback setting (General > Main setup > Affiliate fallback):
Return click to traffic back URL — the click is redirected to the Traffic Back URL configured in the Affiliate's profile. No further evaluation takes place.
Find alternative offer and report to the affiliate — Aftrad looks for an alternative Offer. Continue to step 2.
2. Check the Offer's Fallback tab (General > Fallback):
Enable fallback = Yes — the click is redirected to the specific Offer, Smartlink, or URL configured in the fallback settings.
Enable fallback = No — Aftrad automatically searches for the best available alternative among all Offers that have Accept Cascade Traffic enabled and that match the click's targeting criteria. The algorithm selects the Offer with the best performance.
How to configure the Offer fallback
Go to the Offer, navigate to General > Fallback, and enable the Enable fallback toggle.
Then select where to redirect the traffic:
Offer — redirect to another specific Offer available in the platform.
Smartlink — redirect to a Smartlink available in the platform.
URL — redirect to a custom external URL.
⚠️ Important: If you select URL, the traffic will be sent outside of Aftrad and will not be tracked or attributed within the platform.
💡 Tip: If you leave Enable fallback disabled, Aftrad will automatically find the best matching Offer with Accept Cascade Traffic enabled. This is useful when you want Aftrad to manage fallback traffic automatically without manually specifying a destination.
