Advertisers can now send their own internal click ID in the Postback URL, using the new advertiser_click_id parameter. It isn't used for attribution, but it's stored with the conversion, so you can see it and filter by it in Advertiser Events — handy when an Advertiser asks about a conversion using their own reference.
How it works, step by step
This example follows one conversion from the Affiliate's click to Advertiser Events.
1. The Affiliate sends a click
Each Affiliate sends clicks with their Tracking URL. To build one, open the Offer, go to the Affiliates tab and, in the Affiliate's row, click ⋯ → Offer tracking link builder. Here the Affiliate's own values go in click_id, source and sub_source.
2. Aftrad sends its click ID to the Advertiser
Aftrad redirects the user to the Offer's Tracking URL and replaces the {click_id} macro with Aftrad's own click ID. That's the value the Advertiser receives and must send back in the postback.
3. Turn on advertiser_click_id in the Postback URL
Go to Home → Advertisers, open the Advertiser and click the Postback URL tab. Turn on advertiser_click_id in the parameter table and copy the URL. Share it with the Advertiser.
4. The Advertiser reports the conversion
When the user converts, the Advertiser calls the Postback URL with:
click_id— Aftrad's click ID, received in step 2.advertiser_click_id— the Advertiser's own click ID for that user.
https://[event-domain]/api/v1/events?click_id=209RE2FKLuP7Rhj7K6XV…&advertiser_click_id=UX90461rtyb2287&securetoken=…
5. Find the conversion in Advertiser Events
Go to Tools → Advertiser Events and filter by Returned advertiser and by Advertiser click ID.
Three columns show the three click IDs involved:
Column | What it shows | In this example |
External Event Id | The click ID the Affiliate sent with the click |
|
Related click event | Aftrad's click ID: sent to the Advertiser and received back in the postback |
|
Advertiser click ID | The Advertiser's own click ID, received in |
|
Long values are shortened in the table: hover over them to see the full value, or click the copy icon.
Good to know
advertiser_click_idis optional. Postbacks without it are processed as usual. It isn't used for attribution: Aftrad always attributes the conversion with
click_id(oraggregated_idfor mobile traffic with probabilistic attribution). It's off by default in the Postback URL. Turn it on only for Advertisers that can send their own click ID.
