How to create a Traffic Source

A Traffic Source in Aftrad represents the origin of your paid traffic β€” typically a DSP (Demand-Side Platform) or any other traffic-buying platform such as Google Ads or Facebook.

Each Traffic Source has its own tracking parameters and macros pre-configured according to that platform's standard setup. Once configured, Aftrad automatically generates the correct tracking URL for your campaigns β€” you simply copy it from Aftrad and paste it directly into your traffic-buying platform, with no manual adjustments needed.

You can also configure a Postback URL so that Aftrad notifies the Traffic Source whenever a conversion occurs. This allows the platform to optimise the quality and volume of traffic it delivers to you.

Step 1 β€” Select a Traffic Source adapter

Go to Ad Tracking Hub > Traffic sources in the left navigation menu and click Create.

A dropdown will display all available Traffic Source adapters. Select the one that matches your traffic-buying platform.

πŸ’‘ Tip: If your platform is not listed, use the Generic adapter to configure a custom Traffic Source with your own parameters and macros. If you need a dedicated adapter for your platform, contact your Aftrad account manager to request it.

⚠️ Important: Once a Traffic Source is created, its adapter cannot be changed. If you need a different adapter, create a new Traffic Source.

Step 2 β€” Configure parameters and macros

Once you select an adapter, the Traffic Source editor opens. The parameters and macros are pre-filled with the standard settings used by that platform. You can edit them if needed to match your specific setup.

These parameters define how data is passed from the traffic-buying platform to Aftrad on each click β€” for example, the platform's click ID, campaign ID, creative ID, and other tracking data points.

Step 3 β€” Configure the Postback URL (optional)

You can configure a Postback URL to notify the Traffic Source whenever a public conversion event occurs on an Offer. This enables the platform to use conversion data to optimise campaigns.

The Postback URL is provided by the traffic-buying platform β€” retrieve it from your DSP or ad network account and paste it here.

The {external_event_id} macro is replaced at runtime with the unique click ID sent by the Traffic Source in the parameter you mapped to that macro. For example:

πŸ’‘ Tip: Only public events defined in the Offer's payout rules will trigger a postback notification to the Traffic Source.
